Dry Ice for The First Dance At Your Wedding

Smoking cocktails, a dancefloor wrapped in low fog, a bubbling Halloween cauldron, or drinks that steam as you serve them. Dry ice turns an ordinary gathering into something people talk about, and we deliver across the UK ready for your weekend.

What people use it for

Smoking drinks: Cocktails and punch bowls that fog and bubble at the bar.
Low dancefloor fog: Heavy mist that hangs at floor level under the lights.
Halloween effects: Cauldrons, graveyards, eerie creeping fog for the night.
Birthdays & milestones: A dramatic cake reveal or grand entrance.
Centrepieces: Tables and displays that gently steam through the night.
Corporate & club nights: Big atmosphere for launches and functions.

How much dry ice you need

Fog is made by dropping dry ice into hot water (hotter water makes thicker fog). A few litres of warm water with a handful of pellets gives a strong burst lasting several minutes before it needs a top-up. The right amount depends on how many effects you’re running and for how long.

Type of event Suggested amount Best form
Small gathering — smoking drinks, one or two centrepieces 10 kg Pellets
House party / birthday — drinks plus a few effects 10 kg Pellets
Big party / Halloween — multiple effects through the night 10 – 20 kg Pellets or blocks
Dancefloor fog (needs a fog machine) 10 kg per ~5 min of effect Pellets

Pellets are the most versatile for parties. Blocks last longer and suit larger or longer displays. Not sure what fits your night? Call us and we’ll work it out with you.

When to order for a weekend event (please read)

Dry ice can’t be bought early and stored in a fridge or freezer. It slowly turns back into gas (sublimation), so the delivery has to be timed close to your event. For weekend parties this matters more than anything else on the page.

For any Saturday or Sunday event, order for Friday delivery before 1pm. Saturday courier deliveries are unpredictable and there is no support on Sundays, so a weekend hiccup can’t be fixed until Monday, far too late for your party. A Friday pre-1pm slot leaves time to sort out any problem.

Order extra to allow for what turns to gas while it waits:

  • Need it for Saturday? Order roughly 1.5× the amount from the table, for Friday pre-1pm delivery.
  • Need it for Sunday? Order roughly 2× the amount, for Friday pre-1pm delivery.
  • Always choose the pre-1pm Friday slot, never a free end-of-day slot where the courier picks the time.
  • We add extra dry ice to every box to allow for the weekend wait.

Storing it until the party

Keep the box closed and somewhere cool and well ventilated, wrapped in an old quilt or sleeping bag to slow it down. A garage or shed is ideal. If you’re in a flat, use a balcony or hallway, never sealed indoors with pets or children. Never store dry ice in an airtight container or a normal freezer (it will damage the freezer), and have a quick read of the safety guidance before handling it on the night.

A Few Safety Tips

Never keep dry ice inside the house. It releases gas as it warms, so it always needs a cool, well ventilated space away from where people sleep or sit.

  • Live in a house? Store it in the garage or shed, wrapped in an old quilt or sleeping bag.
  • Live in a flat? Keep it on the balcony or in an airy hallway, never sealed inside with people, pets or children.
  • ✓Never put it in an airtight container, and never in a normal freezer (it will damage the appliance).
  • ✓Always handle it with gloves or a scoop, never with bare hands.

Please have a quick read of the full health & safety guidelines before your event.
